About Shooting for a Cure

Established in 2009, the Shooting for a Cure sporting clay tournament was created to Shooting for a Cure Team Summersraise funds for appendiceal cancer research after Ric Summers lost his hard fought, two-year battle to appendiceal cancer.

Held at American Shooting Centers, each Spring this family-friendly tournament features a day of sporting clay shooting, camaraderie, a catered lunch and Silent Auction. Ric was an avid outdoorsman and spent every chance he had at his Afton, Texas ranch quail and dove hunting. His best friend and cousin, Richard Gilliam, established Shooting for a Cure to honor Ric and bring together friends and family whom loved him dearly. As word spread, the support network grew and we've raised $136,500 for appendix cancer research in four annual events!

ALL PROCEEDS from the tournament benefit the Ric Summers Appendical Cancer Research Fund at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where Ric was a patient.
